Steeped in the exotic history of the wild and violent times of the Border Rievers, which lasted over four hundred years, and before as the scene of a sixth century power struggle and subsequent murder to win the throne of the King of Northumbria. The Queens Head also lies in the heart of Hadrians Wall country, one of the World's most important Heritage sites, attracting many thousands of visitors throughout the year. Built in 1615 as a coaching inn, the Queens Head lay on the main road between Morpeth in the north and Corbridge in the south, this valuable trade diminished somewhat with the building of the Military road 1745 but the Inn continued to prosper and continues to do so in this now peaceful, pleasant and attractive village.
